Rodent Pest Control
In the UK, the most common rodents for pest control are rats, mice and squirrels. They carry diseases which are a risk to public health such as salmonella, listeria and toxoplasma gondii, which can spread to humans.
Rats can also cause structural damage, gnawing their way through wood, pipes, electrical cables and anything else in their path.
The autumn and winter months are when we see most rodent activity, when they leave the fields and countryside in search of food, shelter and warmth.
If you are worried you might have rodents on your property then call Eradipest and we will deal with them quickly, efficiently and permanently.
Do you suspect you have rodents?
If you hear scuttling noises, maybe in your loft or under floorboards, then you may have rodents living on your property.
As well as rats and mice, squirrels like to nest in loft spaces where it’s nice and warm.
Rodents also leave droppings, which you might spot in understairs cupboards, behind furniture or in your kitchen.
You might also hear them gnawing, which they have to do to keep their teeth in check and stop them growing.
Surveying your property
Our first step is to survey your property, to look at the evidence and check for entry points. These can be both above and below ground level, and we will excavate down if needed.
We will ask how long you’ve heard or seen signs of rodents, and will discuss treatment options.
We use cameras to check drains for damage as well as checking redundant pipes in disused drains. Builders often leave old pipework in situ, which is a perfect harbourage location for rats and mice.
Therefore, before we consider any treatment options we will look at ways to deter the rodents.
Deterring Rodents
We deter rodents by understanding why they’re there. Is it because there’s a food source? Do you have bird feed, pet food, household waste, chickens or other livestock nearby?
If so we need to look first at changing the environment. We would block up any holes or mend broken pipes. There could be harbourage areas for rodents outside the property or in sheds and other outbuildings. If so then we can advise on how to deterring rodents from these places.
Rodenticide is always be a last resort, and we believe that prevention is better than cure!
Rodent treatments
If treatment is required then the options for rodents are traps and bait. The bait consists of a rodenticide which we put down in a safe way so that no people or pets are at risk. It is done extremely carefully and in the right places to get the quickest results.
We then follow up after 7-10 days to review whether the treatment has been successful. We will then either remove the bait or traps, or can leave them for a further 7-10 days if necessary.
Preventing future rodent infestations
Many pest controllers don’t take extra measures to prevent rodents returning to your property.
However, Eradipest technicians will always recommending sealing entry points and doing whatever is needed to stop these pests coming back in the future.
