Rats gaining access under a sink

Rodents will use any means to get into a property, and only need the smallest of gaps to gain entry. At this recent job in Selsey we carried out a three visit treatment plan to find out how rats were getting in.

We removed the kick boards in the kitchen and found a small hole under the sink which was big enough for rodents to get in.

We used tracking dust to track their route and found that they’d used drains and air bricks for ingress.

Once we’d found the access points we conducted rodent proofing which included fitting mesh covers to the air bricks and drains. These measures will stop mice and rats entering the property in future.

Bedbugs

Often the first sign of bedbugs are their bites which can be very itchy. We recently attended a property in East Wittering where the owners suspected a bedbug infestation and during our inspection we found them on the bed frame and mattress.

We treat bedbugs by applying a targeted application to areas in all rooms which have been affected.

This includes floor surfaces, cracks and crevices in walls and wall/floor joints. It also includes bed structures, mattresses and all bedroom furniture including fitted units where applicable.

In addition, for severe infestations we apply an ultra low volume insecticide in the affected rooms. All treatments are carried out in a time-effective way to minimise inconvenience to the occupants.

Bird Proofing

Just last week Luke and Chris carried out some bird proofing work in Worthing for a local property manager. The property had ventilation shafts which were a perfect gathering place for pigeons, causing a mess and nuisances for residents.

We supplied, constructed and fitted five aluminium and steel frames to prevent pigeons accessing the ventilation shafts in future. Each frame was fitted directly to the individual shaft entrances using screw fittings to allow maintenance access when required.

The steel mesh was galvanised to prevent corrosion occurring over time.

Silverfish Infestation

Silverfish are a small, long, wingless insects which are also known as carpet sharks or fish moths. They are most active in warm and damp or humid conditions, particularly bathrooms and kitchens.

Here are two silverfish we spotted when surveying a property in Bognor Regis.

For this job we applied a targeted treatment to crevices and a pressure spray to all affected areas. For maximum effectiveness the surfaces should be dry at the time of treatment. As always, the treatment is conducted in a time-effective manner to minimise inconvenience.

Wood-boring Insects

Wood-boring insects such as wood-boring beetles lay their eggs in wood and the larvae, known as woodworm, feed on the cellulose creating holes which can cause serious structural issues.

For this recent job in West Wittering we applied a wood-penetrating treatment to the target areas using a high pressure spray. In more confined or localised areas we apply the treatment carefully using a brush.

In most circumstances one treatment will be sufficient to eradicate the wood-boring insect infestation. It will also protect timbers from re-infestations for a minimum of ten years. We offer a 10 year insurance-backed guarantee with our woodworm and wood-boring insect works.
