Birdproofing in Chichester

We recently attended a property in Chichester which needed a bird proofing solution.  For this we constructed a chimney cage to fit over the top of the chimney breast.  The cage was made from strong galvanised steel mesh and fitted securely over the chimney stack. Corrosion-resistance fittings are used to secure the cage in place and all nesting and debris is removed. 

These cages are a great way to limit bird activity and just one of many bird proofing solutions we offer.

Squirrel proofing in the Witterings

In March, pest technician Luke carried out some squirrel proofing to a property in the Witterings. What had happened here was that squirrels had made their way into a small roof void above an extension.  

We trapped the squirrels within our 21-day trapping period, and now they have gone.  We can also carry out proofing works to prevent further ingress points around the property. 

Working with the Environmental Health Office

Service Manager Chris and pest technician Luke have been working hard with a local Environmental Health Officer to identify how rats in a restaurant were gaining access.  They surveyed floor voids and wall voids, and juvenile rats were seen accessing a broken, disused black water pipe.

The pipe was once used as a conduit carrying drinks pipes to the bar and fresh rat droppings were found in sewer inspection chambers.

It turned out there was an issue with the main sewer system serving the six commercial properties and flats above.  A missing rodding eye cap was allowing rats to enter the localised sewer system from the mainline pipe in the road.  A break in a clay pipe was allowing rats to access underneath the row of buildings, which is being investigated now by Southern Water.

For this job we carried out rat proofing work as well as leaving bait in the sewers.  The Environmental Health team were delighted with our services, as was the business owner.

Catching Cockroaches

We’ve had great success in London using pheromone traps to catch cockroaches for a customer. These lure crawling insects in a safe and natural way and is a great way of monitoring their numbers on a property.

These traps have a sticky surface which attracts insects like cockroaches in a highly effective way.

Rat Tail Analysis

We have been involved in a trial for our pesticide supplier to check rat tails for resistance to the bait. 

When visiting a farm near Chichester we collect tails from dead rats which have been exposed to the new pesticide.  It has been an extremely successful trial so far, with fewer new burrows appearing and less rodenticide taken.

We met with the pesticide supplier earlier in the year to discuss our current rodent strategy on the farm.  As a result, we are considering the use of an alternative, second-generation pesticide and a change of bait station type in certain areas.

We strive to keep in touch with the latest pest control methods and training, working closely with our suppliers to ensure the most effective and permanent solutions are adopted.

Treating rodent ingress in London

Pest technician Kieran has been busy in London over the past couple of months carrying out a three-visit treatment plan for one of our property agent customers there.

Occupants had reported noises in the ceiling void in the middle of a flat.  Kieran checked the drains and found a rodding eye cap slightly ajar. This was due to it being too small for the hole.

He recommended installing a bung to prevent this from being an access point in future, and carried out the work promptly, resolving the issue.
