It’s been another busy couple of months for our pest technicians.
As the weather is warming up, the insect kingdom is waking up so do keep an eye out for things like wasps and ants.
Ant activity in a kitchen
One of our customers in Felpham had noticed ants in her kitchen. She wasn’t sure how they were getting in so called us and Kieran was able to survey the property and found a small hole in the seal around the patio doors. He advised the customer to buy some ant baiting stations, and as a precaution he sprayed the boundaries to ensure no ants could access the property in the short term.

The customer was delighted and has reported since that no ants have returned indoors.
Rodent proofing works.
Luke and Connor have been busy carrying out some rodent proofing works in Bosham. They installed a rodent-proof mesh to prevent them burrowing beneath the property, and sealed up any potential entry points.

A shelf of weld mesh was installed beneath the soil 150mm from the wall of the building. This meets the wall and forms an L shape to bridge any gaps beneath the render. The mesh is held in place below ground level with a shallow concrete bed, and all gaps around the pipework were filled with concrete.
Box moth caterpillars
It’s that time of the year again when box moth caterpillars become active and if you don’t spot them early then they can quickly munch through your garden.
Tim spotted some box moth caterpillars feeding on the young shoots of a box plant. If left alone the caterpillars will soon defoliate the plants and hedges. Early treatment will prevent further damage and if needed we can treat again in a couple of months to keep on top of things.

Wasp prevention for restaurants and other businesses
We provide regular pest control for many local businesses including pubs, cafes and restaurants. Here is a local restaurant where we installed wasp domes, hanging them up outside and they are really effective during the warmer months. They look pretty and attract wasps, keeping customers and staff safe from harm.

We can also supply and fit electric fly killers in restaurant kitchens. We will replace the bulbs when needed as well as the sticky boards.

Carpet moth treatment
Kieran recently carried out a carpet moth treatment in East Wittering. Luckily we caught it early so not much of the carpet was ruined, despite the high moth activity. It’s really hard to spot the larvae sometimes, but if you see what looks like grains of rice on your carpet then it could be a cocoon.
Here are some photos from this job which show how tiny the moths are and how hard they are to spot on a beige carpet!

Kieran carried out a crack and crevice treatment, with a full treatment to all rooms. This should get rid of them and prevent further infestations.
Here are our top tips for preventing carpet moths :
✔️ Clean your house regularly
✔️ Fit insect screens to doors and windows
✔️ Seal any cracks around doors and windows
✔️ Inspect any secondhand carpets, curtains, or furniture before bringing them into your home
